Dreams are a fickle thing, someone once said.

They give you the ability to live a life you’d otherwise never get to experience. But dreams are so short, aren’t they? Only a few seconds, if science is to be trusted. A few seconds of a different universe, a whole new spectrum.

Dreams are a fickle thing but more than that, they’re cruel. Like taking candy from a kid, or a free trial subscription ending, dreams always come to an end. They might be abrupt, they might transition or they might just have a happy ending but they always die. And unlike a real scenario, you can never go back to the dream, or continue it no matter how hard you try.

Why do we dream? What is the purpose of it? What function does it serve to our body, to us? Is it like a screensaver, for when our body is refreshing and resetting itself? Or does it have a superior meaning? Our subconscious or a higher being trying to convey something to us? No one really knows, and even science can’t be trusted to answer this question because it only speculates.

Dreams. A thing many wonder about, a subject full of theories, conspiracies and dare I say, a topic many daydream about as well. Often used in stories, generally of the biblical and religious storytellers. Is it really God communicating with us from up there? A divine intervention, ordering a sage to do a particular task? I won’t drag in the whole debate about the existence of God into this, but didn’t dreams compliment the belief of Him? And maybe they were right, maybe dreams are a way of communication from a different realm.

I like to think dreams are made in a factory. I’ll tell you honestly, this very idea came to me in a dream, so I have no facts to back it up except for the fact that if my dream indeed is a projection of the reality in a different world, then this theory makes perfect sense. So I theorise they are made in factories, production centres , where the souls of those who didn’t believe in a certain religion and didn’t have any celestial retirement home to go to at the end of their mortal career end up. Souls of all kinds, different worlds, multiverses if you will. These souls were given the task of coming up with dreams. And every once in a while, a superior soul in a higher up position would dream a dream so vast and powerful that you would wake up because of the impact of it.

It would depend on their mood. After all, everyone has a few bad days, even if you’re from a different universe right? And these bad days would translate into dreams that they made into nightmares. It usually isn’t intentional, unless a spirit wishes to communicate through a bad dream.

According to research by Calvin S> Hall over the course of forty years, he determined that the emotions generally experienced in dreams were negative. Why is that? The theory of communication from parallel universes could come into play here as well, is it an alternate ‘you’ trying to ask for help? Does that mean other ‘you’s dream about you as well?

Dreams are a fickle thing, you see? They’re constantly changing, never satisfied with our mundane lives. Is that why we dream then? To escape our reality?

Hey ok so, this is completely different form my usual blog posts but dreams have been haunting me for the past few months now so I had to get it out. Do you guys have theories about dreams? what about what you’ve read here. I realise that this post is more of a mind-barf and there isn’t much of a significance to it, but it’s interesting to think about, isn’t it?

The title refers to nightmare in german by the way, and the word comes from the two creatures in German culture, trud and alp that came to people in their dreams to press down on them and sometimes even crush them to death. So there’s something more to think about.

Also! It’s my two year anniversary with this blog, can you believe it?

Tell me what you think!

Bye Xx,

SLTD.
